3 Women Who Inspire Me

This blog post is in response to Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge Day 6

It's crazy that in this day and age it can be hard to find women to be your role model. The most famous "inspiring" people are singers, actors and world leaders who I don't feel inspired by because I can't see them as actual human beings! They just seem untouchable. Take Oprah for example. Her success is just beyond my comprehension!  It seems so far out of reach that I just don't feel inspired by it.

On the other hand, there are some super successful women who are really down to earth (I'm not saying Oprah isn't) and easy to identify with. They let you see their struggles and flaws with out prettifying them first. You get where they've come from and can identify with the hard work that's got them there.

I'm going to keep looking and thinking about women who inspire me as so far I've barely come up with any! There are loads who I admire and think they've done amazing things but very few who I can identify with, feel connected to and am genuinely inspired by.

Here are the few I've come up with so far (Be warned this is a random combo!):

Amy Poehler & Tina Fey

I love that these two are having fun, being creative and looking amazing in their 40s. They are so inspiring in the way they stand up for women in a funny, accessible way. They make me excited about getting older and show everyone that you can still have fun!

If I were to meet them in real life I'd ask them, "How do you keep being so joyful and living life to the full even when it grinds you down and crap things happen?"

Aung San Su Kyi

Aung San Su Kyi is someone who I've always heard about but it's only since I've started reading about Burma and it's political prisoners in the 90s do I really appreciate what an incredible woman she is. I'm going to read some of her books and learn more about what she endured under 15 years of house arrest. I'd ask her "How do you stay strong and stick to your beliefs when there's so much pressure for you not to?".

Which women really inspire you? Let me know in the comments, I need some inspiration inspiration!
